While many of us are familiar with Bangalore’s vibrant city life, I’ve decided to skip the usual spots like MG Road and the malls, and instead, explore the lesser-traveled gems of Karnataka. I’ll also share some of my favorite places to eat and cozy accommodations along the way. So, buckle up as we dive into our first stop!
1. Mysore: The City of Palaces
Our adventure begins with a 150 km drive southwest from Bangalore to the royal city of Mysore. Known for its grand palaces and rich history, Mysore is a place where tradition meets modernity. Driving is the best way to get here, as it gives you the freedom to explore the charming countryside at your own pace.
- Journey Overview: Start your day early in Bangalore, setting off on the 4-5 hour drive to Mysore. The journey itself is a scenic delight, with plenty of opportunities to stop and enjoy the views.
- Best Mode of Transportation: A self-drive car or hired cab is ideal for this trip, offering the flexibility to explore at your own pace. Public transport is available but less convenient.

- Mysore Palace: A breathtaking Indo-Saracenic architectural masterpiece.
- Chamundi Hill: Offers stunning panoramic views of the city and is home to the famous Chamundeshwari Temple.
